FAQ

What is India Venture 2000? What will it achieve?
India Venture 2000 is an initiative designed to help Indian entrepreneurs kick-start and grow their businesses based on innovative IT and e-commerce ideas. McKinsey & Company has launched this initiative to bring together ideas, talent and capital. We hope that India Venture 2000 will result in the start-up of at least 20 to 30 new businesses in India in the next year.

Why is McKinsey supporting India Venture 2000?
At McKinsey, we believe that a vibrant entrepreneurial culture is critical to India’s economic growth. Indeed, elsewhere in the world, Indian entrepreneurs have done extremely well. They could be just as successful here, given the right enabling environment: an environment that brings together ideas, talent and financial capital.

We feel that India Venture 2000 is the first step to creating such an environment.

When was India Venture 2000 started?
The programme was launched in January 2010 and will likely conclude in June 2010.

Is this the first in a series?
Yes, we see India Venture 2000 as the first in a series of initiatives aimed at creating an environment that encourages the growth of new businesses in India. In the coming years, its scope could be extended to other growth sectors in the economy such as healthcare and the media.
